DRAINAGE & STORMWATER MANAGEMENT

The City of Opa-Locka has been experiencing severe flooding throughout its residential and commercial business districts. This was due, in part, to the geographic location of the City that was developed on a flood plain. Several factors have contributed to the flooding of the City’s low-lying areas, including no adequate plan of action to manage surface water runoff in the area, no regularly scheduled canal cleanup plan with a specific preventive maintenance schedule and lack of coordination to develop realistic timetables to complete all projects related to flood protection.

This project was funded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), and the funds were administered by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD).

A few EBS task included:

  • Identifying the location of all stormwater structures using GPS, pipe size and material, flood-prone areas, maps, and all available information Data.
  • Water Quality Analysis
  • Analysis, Design, and Prepare Drainage Report
  • Preparing a master canal cleanup and maintenance plan report for scheduled maintenance
