During an excavation for new storm water drainage trench, petroleum product and petroleum impacted soil were discovered in the triangular shaped landscaped area (the site), north of the Miami City Hall building. A Discharge Reporting Form (DRF) was subsequently forwarded to the Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) and to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).

The source of the petroleum product and contamination is unknown as the impacted area was historically landscaped. At the request of The City of Miami, EBS Engineering, Inc. (EBS) prepared a remedial action plan, monitored the source removal process, and conducted soil and groundwater following the Initial Remedial Action (IRA) activities for the petroleum contamination at the project site. About 160 cubic yards of petroleum contaminated soil was removed for disposal.
